After the wedding and reception, it's time for a honeymoon - and a cruise. Whether you just want to get out on the sea for a few days or go exploring the world, honeymoon cruises can be very romantic and fun. Why go stay at a resort on an exotic island when you can visit multiple islands? Or nap right on deck, overlooking the ocean? The cruise ships themselves are filled with countless activities for newlyweds.

Before you hop on a ship, here are a few things you need to consider when choosing a honeymoon cruise:

The Itinerary

Think about what you want yourself as an individual as well as with your spouse as a couple. Select an itinerary that includes activities you will both be interested in. At the same time, you might want a bit of "me" time here and there. If you want to spend most of your time on the ship and don't want to leave it, there is no use in paying for any excursions and sightseeing in capitals.

Destination(s)

Make sure places that are synonymous with "romantic" appear on the itinerary: Cabo San Lucas, Maui, Half Moon Cay, Bermuda, Yucatan, etc. An Alaskan cruise can also be very romantic, as there is plenty of beautiful sightseeing to do. Just make a list of places you'd both love to see during your honeymoon and check out various cruise itineraries until you find the one you both want.

Make Sure You Get a Nice Suite

A standard cabin might be okay for a regular cruise, but not for a honeymoon. Don't be afraid to splurge on a cruise ship suite, just as you would want to splurge on a luxury honeymoon suite at a four or five-star hotel. The perks vary from cruise line to cruise line, but you can always count on getting the best experience possible on any particular ship.

Seclusion

Solitude is key when it comes to honeymoon cruises. The trip is supposed to focus on just the two of you. Look for a cruise ship that has adults-only areas like sun decks and pools. You should also look into amenities such as secluded hot tubs and padded, comfortable lounges just for two. Check if the cruise ship you are considering has special limited-access areas. If nothing else, you might want to rent a cabana by the main pool.

Don't rush into your decision. Keep these factors in mind when looking over itineraries for honeymoon cruises, and you will surely find a great deal.
